Honda heated grips faulty
« on: July 24, 2012, 05:58:25 PM »
Has anyone using the honda heated grips had any problems with them?

I ask because durings sundays ride mine came ON to full heat without me switching them on. The light built into the button didn't even illuminate but yet the grips got toastie hot and only went off when the ignition was turned off. I've ended up having to unplug the bullet connectors as they decided to stay on full heat on THE HOTTEST DAY OF THE YEAR SO FAR :157:

Having previously used them in scotland (wet gloves) i know they were working OK at that time and sunday morning they were 'off' for about 3 hours then just came on to full heat by themselves, strange, very strange :110:

Hi Scotsy, I had this on my VFR1200 and it turned out to be water ingress into the 'control box'. Mine also came on when it was a hot day and would only go off if I turned the ignition off. The dealer replaced the grips before he diagnosed the water problem in the control box - which was evident when he took it apart.

Hope this helps?

That sounds like it, but where is the 'control box' located. I am not going to touch it myself, just that i will be taking it in for a warranty fix

Cheers

I haven't had problems with mine.
I had only used it one day (to test if they work) because now in my country weather is very hot.
Ah! And I haven't found a day of rain for the moment, so ... no problems with the water in the "control box".
It doesn’t matter the fast you go, but the far you arrive ...

New control box and harness loop fitted under warranty this week, seems like it WAS water ingress into the control box as Southerm Man suggested.......

good call :020:

I'm as happy as a pig in sh1t again now  :305:
